BANGLADESH WINS TOSS, OPTS TO FIELD AGAINST INDIA IN OPENING MATCH OF WORLD CUP

Bangladesh captain
Shakib Al Hasan won the toss
and elected to field against
India in the World Cup
tournament opener at the
Mirpur Stadium on Saturday.

India decided to field three
pace bowlers in Zaheer
Khan, Shantakumaran
Sreesanth and Munaf Patel.
Harbhajan Singh is the only
specialist spinner in the side.

Bangladesh deployed two
left-arm spinners, captain
Hasan and Abdur Razzak.
The only previous World Cup
clash between the two teams
was at Port of Spain in 2007,
when Bangladesh scored a
shock five-wicket win in a
group match that led to
India’s early exit from the
tournament.

India and Bangladesh are
with England, South Africa,
West Indies, Ireland and
Netherlands in Group B. Four
teams from the group will
advance to the quarterfinals.
